You've been praised your whole life

for being the responsible one, the

achiever, the go-getter, the strong one.

4

:

The one who never drops the ball.

5

:

And yes.

6

:

That may have gotten you success but it

also taught you a very dangerous lie.

7

And that lie is that your value

only exists in what you do.

8

That is not true.

CH Podcast Intro Video 4k: Welcome

to the Core Happiness Podcast.

10

:

I'm your host, Casey Banks, a mindset

and positive psychology coach.

11

:

On this podcast, we discuss all

things related to creating happiness

12

:

from within, so let's do it.

13

:Camo Recording:

welcome back to the

14

:

Core Happiness Podcast.

15

:

Tell me if this sounds familiar to you.

16

:

You check the boxes, you crush the list.

17

:

You are constantly getting things done.

18

:

You are on top of stuff, but

still you feel unfulfilled.

19

:

Does that sound familiar?

20

:

And why?

21

:

Why do we feel unfulfilled?

22

:

Because somewhere along the way you are

taught that productivity equals worth.

23

:

But here's the truth.

24

:

Being productive is not the

same as being purposeful.

25

:

And today I wanna talk about the real

difference between the two and why

26

:

it matters now more than ever, right?

27

:

You weren't born believing that

your value came from output.

28

:

You.

29

:

We weren't born that way, but

somewhere along the way, usually in

30

:

our childhood, some, whether it was

a teacher or parent or neighbor,

31

:

babysitter, someone praised your

performance, they ignored your presence.

32

:

And they gave you value and

recognition and accolades and thought

33

:

your accomplishments were based

on something that you do, right?

34

:

and so we started proving.

35

:

We started overachieving.

36

:

We started perfecting, producing,

hoping that finally, eventually

37

:

it would feel like enough.

38

:

But instead of peace, all we feel

is pressure instead of clarity,

39

:

we are constantly feeling like

we are confused, like we're lost.

40

:

And instead of fulfillment,

we just feel tired.

41

:

Right?

42

:

We're fatigued.

43

:

So let me be honest with you,

and I hope you hear me when I say

44

:

it's not that you're unmotivated,

it's not that you're disconnected.

45

:

It's not that you are not ambitious,

because if anything, it's really that

46

:

your ambition doesn't align with you.

47

:

You're just out of alignment, Here's

what I see so many of my coaching

48

:

clients go through, and this is

what I wanna share with you today.

49

:

Being productive is not the same.

50

:

As being purposeful.

51

:

And I'm gonna keep saying that.

52

:

Why?

53

:

Because productivity is a tool.

54

:

It's not your identity.

55

:

It's okay to get things done.

56

:

I'm not saying don't get things done.

57

:

It's okay to get things done,

but you're not a machine.

58

:

And I think it's important that we pause

and ask ourselves like, is this serving my

59

:

soul or is it just serving my self image?

60

:

And a lot of times we are busy.

61

:

To make it feel like a

sense of purpose too, right?

62

:

If I'm, if I'm busy, if I'm being

productive, then I'm not lazy.

63

:

I'm, I'm providing value in some way.

64

:

But busyness is not a buffer.

65

:

When we stay motion, to avoid

emotion, that's a problem, so slowing

66

:

down actually allows us to feel.

67

:

And yes, that could be scary, especially

if you've been taught to avoid your

68

:

truth, but it's so necessary, purpose

lives in the why not the what.

69

:

You can do a hundred things

a day and still feel empty.

70

:

But if you did one, aligned yes, that

fulfills your why, your values, you can.

71

:

filling our entire body with peace.

72

:

Just one aligned.

73

:

Yes.

74

:

So here's the deep shift that I talk

to with my clients, and I hope you

75

:

hear not just intellectually, but

I hope this hits you in your bones.

76

:

Okay.

77

:

You've been praised your whole life

for being the responsible one, the

78

:

achiever, the go-getter, the strong one.

79

:

The one who never drops the ball.

80

:

And yes.

81

:

That may have gotten you success

and rightfully so, but it also

82

:

taught you a very dangerous lie.

83

:

And that lie is that your value

only exists in what you do.

84

:

That is not true.

85

:

Here's what no one actually told you.

86

:

You don't need to constantly

improve to be worthy of rest.

87

:

You don't have to constantly

achieve to be worthy of love.

88

:

You are already enough as you are, even

when you are still, even when you are

89

:

resting, even when you are not doing.

90

:

' cause you don't have

to prove you yourself.

91

:

You're already proof.

92

:Camo Recording:

I'm gonna ask this question.

93

:

Who are you when you stop performing?

94

:

Who are you?

95

:

If you are not performing, if you're

not pleasing, if you are not providing,

96

:

if you're not doing, who are you?

97

:

And if that question makes you squirm

a little bit, if it makes you panic,

98

:

then you found your work, because

real purpose is not about performance.

99

:

It's in your presence.

100

:

It's simply being you and being present.

101

:

Your soul does not care about metrics.

102

:

And what you accomplish, it cares

about alignment, it cares about

103

:

meaning, it cares about peace.

104

:

So instead of waking up and asking,

what do I need to get done today?

105

:

What if the question was, what

would feel most aligned today?

106

:

Instead of go, go, go, go, go, go, go.

107

:

What if we pause long enough to

ask, what am I building and why?

108

:

What's my why?

109

:

and that may be the most important

part, because if the life you're

110

:

creating doesn't feel like yours,

who are you creating it for?

111

:

This isn't about quitting everything.

112

:

It's not about stopping everything,

putting everything down, but it is

113

:

about remembering the you that existed

before you were defined by productivity

114

:

or doing because that woman that

existed before, she's still here.

115

:

She's just waiting for you to

get quiet enough and still enough

116

:

for her to come home to you.

117

:Camo Recording:

So here's what I wanna do today.

118

:

Try to write down the three top things

that you do every single day, your

119

:

default tasks, and just three of them.

120

:

And then ask yourself, are these

aligned with who I want to become?

121

:

Or are they habits that I've kept

to just prove that I'm worthy?

122

:

After you've answered those questions,

cross one off the list and replace

123

:

it with something that reconnects you

with your values, not your performance.

124

:

What's the one thing you're letting

go of to reconnect with your purpose?

125

:Camo Recording:

So whenever you are facing overwhelmed,

126

:

just remember it's not because you're

weak or you're unmotivated or you're

127

:

lazy, you're not disciplined enough.

128

:

It's none of that.

129

:

It's simply because you have been

carrying too much for far too long

130

:

and with a little room to breathe.

131

:

And that my friend, is not

a time management problem.

132

:

That is a nervous system problem.

133

:

So let's talk a little bit about

the nervous system and what's really

134

:

going on and how we can reset it.

135

:

Okay?

136

:

Because.

137

:

It's not overwhelming isn't about having

too much to do, it's about how your

138

:

mind and body have learned to survive

under a constant state of pressure.

139

:

Your default has become racing thoughts,

a to-do list that multiplies the

140

:

moment you sit down, um, tightness

in your chest, like all that stress.

141

:

That doesn't mean that you're broken.

142

:

It means that you are operating

in a survival mode, and most women

143

:

have not been taught to listen to

what the overwhelm is trying to say.

144

:

When we feel overwhelmed, I think

our body's communicating to us,

145

:

but we don't really stop to listen

to what it's trying to say, right?

146

:

Instead, we blame ourselves.

147

:

We think.

148

:

I really need to get my stuff together.

149

:

I really need to be more efficient.

150

:

I need to be grateful.

151

:

I need to be disciplined.

152

:

But here's the truth.

153

:

You don't need to try harder.

154

:

You just need to feel safer,

Let's break this down into

155

:

three core insights to help.

156

:

Really understand what's going on

inside, number one is that overwhelm

157

:

is simply unprocessed emotion.

158

:

Think about it, that's not a time issue.

159

:

yes, you may be managing some tasks,

sure, but you're also managing emotions,

160

:

decisions, expectations, disappointments

that never had a place to land.

161

:

And if you have unprocessed emotions,

your nervous system is running the show.

162

:

Okay?

163

:

If you are always in fight, flight,

or freeze, there's not a planner

164

:

in the world that can fix that.

165

:

What you need is regulation.

166

:

Before you can create clarity,

You need to reset, you need to

167

:

rebalance that nervous system.

168

:

You don't need a new routine.

169

:

And look, it's not this huge, crazy

thing to do whenever you're feeling

170

:

overwhelmed, you simply have to

regulate, reframe, and redirect.

171

:

What does that mean?

172

:

It means regulate is to

just breathe slow and deep.

173

:

Inhale for four.

174

:

Exhale for six.

175

:

We talk about breath work a lot on

this podcast, and that's why it helps

176

:

to regulate your nervous system.

177

:

And then you can reframe whatever

thoughts are going on right now.

178

:

A lot of times when we are

overwhelmed, when we're anxious,

179

:

we're thinking about the future.

180

:

We're thinking about things

that haven't even happened yet

181

:

and we're stressed about it.

182

:

So reframe what is going on

right now in the present.

183

:

What's true right now?

184

:

That's all you have to ask yourself.

185

:

Not what you fear, not what you're

scared of, not what could happen.

186

:

And I'm so nervous.

187

:

What's real right now?

188

:

What's real?

189

:

That's all you have to ask

yourself and then redirect.

190

:

And that simply means ask yourself what

is the next micro step that feels safe?

191

:

That is how your nervous system

meets your soul, honor and clarity.

192

:

That's how you can start to

feel safe within yourself.

193

:

Here's what I want you to

know, and this might make you

194

:

feel a little uncomfortable.

195

:

You're not lazy, you're not too

emotional, and if anyone said you're

196

:

too much, you're not too much.

197

:

Okay, you're not, you are a human being

with a fully functional nervous system,

198

:

one that has been functioning inside

a culture of emotional suppression.

199

:

You are taught that laziness is the

same as rest, that boundaries are

200

:

selfish, that slowing down means failing

or falling behind, and so naturally.

201

:

Our bodies have learned to stay

in this tense, alert state.

202

:

We've learned to stay in motion, and

that overwhelm that you feel is not

203

:

a sign that you're falling apart.

204

:

It's a sign that your nervous system

is waving a flag, it's waving the

205

:

white flag of surrender saying,

I, I can't keep living like this.

206

:

I need a break.

207

:

Because we were not supposed to

stay in fight, flight, or freeze.

208

:

So you don't need more discipline.

209

:

You just simply need more grace.

210

:

And here's a reframe that I think

changes everything, If you think

211

:

about it, clarity isn't just mental.

212

:

It's physiological.

213

:

You can't think your way to peace if your

body is locked in a panicked state, But

214

:

you can create safety within yourself.

215

:

One breath, one moment at a

time, one boundary at a time.

216

:

And the goal here is

to make you feel safe.

217

:

So when you're feeling overwhelmed,

stop asking What's wrong with me?

218

:

'cause we all do it right?

219

:

And instead ask, what does my

body need to feel safe again?

220

:

That's a shift.

221

:

What do I need to feel safe Again,

that will take you from the mindset

222

:

of performance to being present.

223

:

It takes you from the mindset

of guilt to feeling grounded.

224

:

It takes you from panic to peace.

225

:

So the next time that you feel

overwhelmed, place one hand on

226

:

your heart or on your belly.

227

:

Whichever works for you.

228

:

And then just say out

loud, I'm not in danger.

229

:

I am allowed to pause.

230

:

and then ask yourself, what is the next

gentlest step I can take right now?

231

:

That's how you reclaim safety

within yourself and that feeling

232

:

safe helps you reclaim your power.

233

:

So.

234

:

Don't push harder.

235

:

Don't add more to your plate.

236

:

Don't put so much guilt on yourself.

237

:

Instead, start by creating a

calm, safe space within you

238

:

Just remember you reclaim your

power, not by pushing harder,

239

:

but by creating calm inside.

240

:

And we too often look for the external

to feel safe, to feel grounded.

241

:

We look for something outside

of ourselves when really we just

242

:

need to feel it within ourselves.

243

:

so.

244

:

Allow that woman that's deep

inside you, the one you may

245

:

still feel disconnected from.

246

:

Know that she's still there.

247

:

She's still waiting.

248

:

She's just waiting to feel

safe, not so overwhelmed.

249

:

Not so worried, and then she

can come back home to you.

250

:

Until next time, find

that peace within you.

251

:

I thank you for joining me today.
